McCall Business Park Master Planning & Design Charettes - McCall, Idaho

In order to foster economic growth in the City of McCall, a new business park plan and zoning standards were needed to allow for business park development as well as the establishment of diverse businesses and industries.  Harmony Design & Engineering facilitated a series of public workshops or charrettes with 54 attendees including property owners, business owners, economic development specialists, environmental groups, utility companies, community members, City staff, engineers, and consultants.  The public process was the cornerstone of the Business Park Framework Plan which included consideration of present and future land uses, transportation routes including pathways, parks and civic spaces, and the availability of utilities. Although many participants had reservations or questions at the beginning of the charrette process, the final Business Park Framework Plan was one that the whole community supported.

“Harmony effectively used input and guidance from McCall stakeholders to produce a framework plan for our business park that was functional, appealing, and widely-accepted....I would highly recommend Harmony Design & Engineering for any future project.”  -Michelle Groenevelt, Community Development Director, City of McCall

Hailey River Street Revitalization - Hailey, Idaho

River Street is an underdeveloped business district the Hailey downtown core which currently lacks basic pedestrian facilities.  Harmony Design & Engineering assisted the City of Hailey with an Idaho Department of Commerce Community Block Grant application by providing conceptual engineering and landscape plans for the River Street Improvements.  Harmony staff facilitated charrette style public workshops, held small meetings with stakeholders, and facilitated a design workshop that focused on the design for River Street.  Based on all of this input, the River Street improvement plans were developed with the goals of slowing down traffic, increasing pedestrian and bicycle safety, improving storm drainage, and beautifying the downtown area, all in the hopes to attract business.  The workshops resulted in strong community support for the project.

Hydrology, Hydraulic & Floodplain Mapping – Mitchell County, Iowa

This project provided updated flood hazard data to help the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the local, regional, and state agencies deal with existing and increased flood hazards caused by the 2008 floods in Iowa.  Flood Recovery Maps in digital GIS format with accompanying reports were produced for sixteen Iowa counties.  This project had a very short time-line and Harmony Design & Engineering worked closely with a large project team headed by URS Corporation to get the project finished on time and within budget.  Harmony Design & Engineering analyzed and processed topographic data, conducted hydrologic analysis using ArcHydro, conducted hydraulic analysis using HEC-RAS and HEC-GeoRAS, and produced flood hazard delineations for 469 stream miles in Mitchell County.   All data produced met FEMA Data Capture Standards and FEMA’s Guidance and Specifications for Flood Hazard Mapping Partners.
